When you place a personalization tag in a campaign, the value of that tag will automatically be inserted into the campaign when it is sent (replacing the tag itself).
We offer a variety of default personalization tags, such as first and last name. You can also insert custom field values into your campaigns, so there is a near limitless amount of data you can use to personalize your messages.
Inserting personalization tag with the Campaign Designer
To insert a personalization tag into your campaign, select a text block in your campaign. Place your cursor where you want to tag to be inserted.
A menu of options appears above the content block. Click “Personalize.”
A modal window will appear giving you a categorized menu of personalization tags. When you find the personalization tag you want to use, click its name and it will be inserted where your cursor appears in the text block.
Using personalization tags with HTML or TEXT Only Emails
To insert a field value into your HTML or Text only campaign, click “Insert” then “Personalized Content.”

Modifying personalization tags
Modifiers allow you to change the capitalization of your data when it is inserted into your campaign. This is useful for ensuring that proper nouns, such as names, are capitalized and common nouns, such as objects, aren’t, for example.
Modifiers are placed after a pipe symbol ( | ). So a first name personalization tag including a modifier to capitalize the first letter would look like this:

List of modifiers:
- UPPER (converts entire tag to all uppercase letters)
- UPPERFIRST (converts first letter to uppercase)
- UPPERWORDS (capitalizes the first letter of every word)
- TITLECASE (capitalizes the first letter of every word, and forces all other letters to be lowercase)
- LOWER (converts entire tag to lowercase letters)
- LOWERFIRST (changes the first letter of the text to lowercase)
- LOWERWORDS (changes the first letter of every word to lowercase)
Previewing personalization tags
Some personalization tags will not work with test emails because there are no data values to be inserted. To preview a personalized email, go to the Campaign Summary step of the campaign creation process.
In the upper right hand corner of the Desktop Preview, there is an email field. Insert the email address of one of your contacts and click “Preview” to see how the email will appear for them when it is sent.
